Defamation

What is defamation law?

Defamation refers to the act of making false statements about someone that damage their reputation. In today’s interconnected world, defamation can occur in various forms, including spoken words (slander) and written statements (libel). When false and damaging statements are made about you, they can have significant emotional, social, and financial consequences.

There are many different types of bullying, including, but not limited to:

- Libel, which are defamatory statements made in writing or another permanent form, such as newspaper articles, social media posts, or blog entries;
- Slander, which are defamatory statements made orally or through temporary forms of communication, such as spoken words, gestures, or radio broadcasts; and
- Defamation by implication, which are defamatory actions or impressions given to the public, usually implying criminality of the defamed individual.
